On Saturday, August 28, the Montreat College men's soccer team travelled to Nashville, Tennessee to take on Trevecca Nazarene University in the Trojans' season opener. The Cavaliers, coming off a 2-0 victory over Emmanuel College and possessing a 1-0 record, were looking to create momentum early in the season.

The Montreat College men's soccer team kicked off its 2010 regular season Tuesday night against Emmanuel College in a match played at Owen High School in Black Mountain.  With nine seniors gone from the 2009 squad, including well-known names like Shaka Bangura, Howard Fisher, and Stephen Jackson, the men's team had a lot to prove.  And they did just that, earning a solid 2-0 victory against the Lions to mark a new era in Montreat soccer.
Of the opening victory, Head Coach Brenton Benware said, "It's great to start the regular season with a solid win and a shutout.  Our fitness proved to be good and our offensive pressure was exciting for this point in the season."

The Montreat College men's soccer coaching staff has announced the signing of Adrian Erwin.  Erwin, a central defensive player, joins the Cavalier soccer team for the fall 2010 season.
 
The Mandeville, Jamaica native is the son of Donna Griffiths-Campbell and Cecil Erwin.  He attended deCarteret College and captained his soccer club, Team Atlantica, from 2005-2007.
