Barbourville, KY - The Montreat College women's soccer team was on the road Wednesday, making the rainy trek to Kentucky to take on Union College. After a 45-minute rain delay the two sides kicked off the match and Union used a second half scoring spree to pull away from the Cavaliers for a 7-1 victory.
Union got off to a fast start, scoring a pair of goals within a minute of each other, putting the Cavaliers in a 2-0 hole eleven minutes into the match. From there, the Montreat defense went to work and held the Bulldogs scoreless the remainder of the half. Montreat cut the lead in half in the 57th minute as Rebecca Sharpe (SO/Burlington, NC) found the back of the net for the Cavaliers. That momentum would prove to be short-lived as the Bulldogs quickly answered in the 60th minute to push the lead to 3-1. Union would add four additional goals in a 17-minute span that led to the final score.
The Cavaliers return to action on Saturday, October 3 as they host out-of-conference opponent Hiwassee College at 1pm at Howard Fisher Memorial Field. This match is part of a number of athletic events scheduled around the 2015 Montreat College Homecoming.
Cleveland, GA - The Montreat women's soccer team traveled to Georgia for a conference matchup with Truett-McConnell on Saturday. After a scoreless first forty minutes, the Bears used two goals late in the first half to propel them to a 4-0 victory over the Cavaliers.
A scoreless tie was broken when the Bears scored in the 41st minute. And strong closing effort led to another goal in the 45th minute to give the Bears the 2-0 advantage at the half. Truett-McConnell continued to press thoughout the second half, adding their third goal in 57th minute and closing out the match with a fourth and final tally in the 89th minute.
The Bears used their aggressive attack to outshoot Montreat 35-3. Jordan DeVaan (SO/Asheville, NC) had a busy day in goal, collecting 19 saves on the match.
The Cavaliers return to action Tuesday, September 29 when they travel to face Union College in a mactch set to begin at 5pm.
Black Mountain, NC - The Montreat College women's soccer team returned to action at Howard Fisher Memorial Field on Thursday to take on AAC opponent Tennessee Wesleyan. The Bulldogs got off to a blazing start and used five first half goals to propel them to a 5-1 victory.
After giving up a flurry of goals in the first half, the Cavaliers bucked down and got on the board in the 51st minute with a goal from Alanna Castaneda (FR/Dallas, TX). After goalkeeper Melina Wilkinson (SR/Johannesburg, South Africa) exited the match with an injury, Jordan DeVaan (SO/Asheville, NC) filled in admirably, collecting six saves while keeping the the Bulldogs scoreless in the second half.
On Saturday, September 26, the Cavaliers will head to Cleveland, GA to take on Truett-McConnell in a matchup of AAC opponents.
