ASHEVILLE, NC - The Appalachian Athletic Conference has announced winners of the individual awards for softball and several members of the Montreat College softball team received recognition for their efforts both on and off the field.

Outfielder Aubree Sluder (FR/Asheville, NC) was named to the AAC All-Freshman team. Sluder hit .299 on the season with 38 hits, including 5 doubles, a triple, and two home runs. She also led the team with 13 stolen bases and a .982 fielding percentage. 

Hunter Campbell (JR/Lincolnton, NC) was named to the Champions of Character team and eight team members were named to the All-Academic Team including Dezaree Avallone (SR/Shallotte, NC), Ashley Hurd (SO/Winston-Salem, NC), Kendra Johnson (SO/Ararat, NC), Morgan Meredith (SO/Coalfield, TN), Megan Recher (SR/Waxhaw, NC), Lauren Rowell (SO/Lancaster, SC), Amber Smith (SR/Boonville, NC), and Connor Townsend (JR/Morganton, NC).

BELMONT, NC - The Montreat College softball team concluded the 2016 season on Saturday as they dropped a double-header to Belmont-Abbey.

In the first game, the Crusaders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. The scoring then ceased until the sixth inning when a Desirae Bebber (JR/Catfish, NC) single drove in Morgan Meredith (SO/Coalfield, TN) to cut the lead to 3-1. However, the Crusaders came back in the bottom of the inning to score six runs and seal a 9-1 victory. Montreat was limited to only four hits throughout the contest. 

In the second contest, Belmont-Abbey scored a run in the first and added four more in the fourth while keeping the Cavaliers scoreless in a 6-0 victory. Montreat got two hits apiece from Sydeny McAbee and Megan Recher (SR/Waxhaw, NC) but were unable to get any runs across the board in the loss.

The Cavalier's finish the season with a 7-41 record with a 3-17 mark in conference play.

BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC - The Montreat College softball team dropped a double-header at home to Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Truett-McConnell on Tuesday afternoon.

In the first game, the Bears jumped out to an eleven run lead after three innings and cruised to a 14-3 win. The Cavalier runs came on nine hits, including two each from Aubree Sluder (FR/Asheville, NC), Desirae Bebber (JR/Catfish, NC), and Ashlyn Vickers (FR/Ellenboro, NC). In the second game, the Cavaliers fell victim to a strong pitching performance from Bears pitchers Taylor Nix and Carson Hagin, who combined to throw a no-hitter in an 8-0 win for Truett-McConnell. 

The team will return to action on Saturday, April 23rd when they travel to take on Belmont-Abbey for a double-header set to begin at 2pm.
