2008 Men's Soccer
2008 Men's Soccer Season Outlook

The Montreat College men's soccer team anxiously prepares for a challenging 2008 schedule.  Key additions to this year's schedule include Lindsey Wilson College (6-time NAIA National Champions and #2 in the 2007 final regular season NAIA coaches' poll) and six NCAA Div-II schools including Wingate University (N.C.) and St. Leo University (FL).

The men's soccer team retains nine starters from the 2007 season and has also added some significant recruits to its roster.  With only two seniors and a youthful team, the potential looks strong for Montreat men's soccer in the upcoming years.

Montreat ranked #2 in its AAC conference pre-season coaches' poll and climbed to #1 in the Sept. 8th conference poll.  The latest AAC conference poll is as follows: 1. Montreat College (N.C.), 2. Bryan College (Tenn.), 3. Covenant College (Ga.), 4. King College (Tenn.), 5. Milligan College (Tenn.)

2008 JV Men's Soccer Season Outlook
This year represents a challege across the board for our guys.  Every game they play they are the underdog.  Whether it is against seasoned athletes in the Asheville league or the JV teams from NCAA Division II opponents, every game represents a significant challenge.  But where there is great opportunity, there is great reward.  This years lineup is the strongest its ever been in its three year history.  With seven returners and eight newcomers Montreat's JV soccer is poised to take a shot at the giants.

"Last year, we didn't get off to the best start.  But with hard work throughout the year, and great individual effort, the guys were able to finish strong in their season and took that momentum into their indoor season, where they finished second in the league." said coach Riccardi.  "I want to build off of the passion and work ethic we gained last year to push us to that next level as a team."

Montreat's JV soccer plays in the Men's Open Division in Asheville and also plays games against powerhouse Wingate University, Anderson University, and Cumberlands University.  It will no doubt be an exciting season.
