2009 Softball Season Outlook
The 2008-09 Lady Cavaliers will not shy away from playing anyone and the schedule reflects that mind set. They will open with NCAA DI foe USC-Upstate. The Spartans are coming off a year in which the tied for the regular season Conference title in the Atlantic Sun. The first two months of the schedule will provide a solid test each and every game out as it is full of only NCAA DII games. The Lady Cavaliers should be battle tested as they head into the conference stretch of games to end the year. This group is determined to improve on last year's season and look to find away into the regional tournament at the end of the year.

INFIELD

The infield should be the strength of this year's Cavaliers softball team. With upperclassmen returning at every position the Cavaliers have a proven infield. The infield will consist of junior Erin Cross & sophomore Morgan Mills at first, senior Amber Summerow & utility freshman Cassie Randall at second. Sophomore Jamie Poling and senior Amy Vogel will provide a solid leadership at SS and 3rd respectively. Freshmen Samantha Haddock and Macie Lovette will vie for playing time at 3rd also.

OUTFIELD

The outfield is a little more wide open going into the year. Anchoring the team in centerfield will be junior Kerby Barkdoll with freshman Tameron Seeley looking to get the starting nod in left field. Rightfield will be a battle between the remaining outfielders with sophomore Tiffany Davis, sophomore Cayla Starnes, freshman Whitney Roper, freshman  Monica Wheeldon  and freshman Cassie Randall all fighting for the starting position.

PITCHERS

The pitching staff will be very untested and young with the semester graduation of senior Amanda Wolfe. Freshman Janna James will get the starting nod in game one going into the spring with freshman Taylor Trull going in game two. Freshman Janetha Gregory will be counted on to provide some solid relief innings and some spot starting duties. All three will continue to work hard through the winter and be ready for their first season on the pitcher rubber.

CATCHERS

Behind the dish the Cavaliers will be led by senior  Mandi Pike and freshman Olivia Huffman. Both have had a good fall season and will give the team a solid field leader from behind
the plate.
