David Pennell is entering his fifth year as head coach of the Montreat College golf program and his ninth year of coaching overall.  In his tenure at Montreat, the Cavaliers have established three school records in scoring, started a women's golf program, and won one women's NAIA Region XII championship (2007).

Pennell is a 26-year Class A retired life member of the PGA. He also is a 31-year teaching professional.  David was selected as the 2007 AAC/Region XII Coach of the Year for women's golf. 

David is married to his wife Shirley and has three children; Chip, a 2003 graduate of Montreat College, Stephanie (17) a junior at North Henderson High School, and Ryan (15) a freshman at North Henderson High School.  They reside in Fletcher, NC.
