Kristy Kamer enters her sixth season in 2017-2018 leading the Cavaliers volleyball program after previously serving as head coach of the Bears of Shawnee State University (Ohio) from 2006-2010.


A number of student-athletes have earned honors during Kamer's tenure at Montreat. 


Most recently, in 2016, Kendra Johnson earned Libero of the Year and first team All-Conference as well as first team All region and Libero of the Year, All-region, and honorable mention All-American.


Overall, two 2016 squad member's earned all-conference and seven garnered all-academic honors. In 2015, one Cavalier earned second team All-Conference, while eight earned All-Academic recognition. The year prior, in 2014, one Cav made the All-Conference squad, while six landed on the All-Academic team.  


In 2013 - Hannah Scholz earned AVCA all-region honorable mention, two members of the team earned All-Conference honors, and five were recognized with a spot on the All-Academic team. Four squad members were named Daktronics - NAIA Scholar Athletes and made the AVCA All-Academic team. 


In her first season at Montreat, Kamer led the Cavaliers to the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Championship match with a 24-14 overall mark that included a 13-5 conference record. That same year she coached three Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes (Bethany Hirz, Alyssa Kaufrman, Hannah Travis) and Hannah Bostic, Alyssa Kaufman, and Hannah Scholz were named first team All-AAC. Sarah Roth earned All-Freshman honors, as Kamer led the Cavs to the AAC title match, where Bostic and Kaufman garned spots on the AAC All-Tournament Team. 


In the five years at SSU, Kamer obtained a record of 137-51 where her 2008 team won the schools first American Mideast Conference Tournament Championship that also gave the schools it first trip to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round Tournament in volleyball.


In 2009, Kamer led the Bears to their first-ever regular season AMC championship and made their second trip the NAIA National tournament where they won the open round of the NAIA tournament against Union College and punched their ticket to Sioux City, Iowa.


In 2010, SSU changed conferences, leaving the AMC for the Mid-South Conference. Kamer led the Bears to the East Division regular season title and beat Georgetown College to punch their ticket again to the opening round of the NAIA tournament where they beat IU-East and once again made it out to Sioux City Iowa.


In 2009, Kamer was named the AMC Coach of the Year and NAIA Northeast Region Coach of the Year. She was also voted Coach of the Year for Defiance College alumni Varsity D award in the same year.


Kamer has also been inducted into the Hall of Fame at Columbus State Community College for the Sports and Fitness Management Program and into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Granville High School in Granville Ohio.


She has also coached four All-Americans, multiple All-Conference selections and a Player of the Year, NAIA Scholar Athletes and All-Conference Scholar athletes in her last three years at Shawnee where her teams earned all-academic honors.


Kamer received her Associates Degree from Columbus State Community College where she was also the assistant women's basketball coach. She went onto Shawnee State University and received her Bachelors in Sports Management and played volleyball for two years. She has her Masters in Coaching Education from Ohio University's Patton School of Education. 


Coach Kamer lives in Montreat with her husband Shane Kamer, who is the head professor of Exercise Science at Montreat, and a chiropractor in Black Mountain. They have a daughter Haleigh, who is 10 years old.
