Lincoln Walters is transitioning into his third year as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Montreat College. His enthusiasm, high energy, and will to win have motivated his players, the college, and this community in ways that people haven't seen in quite some time. In Walters first year as head coach he doubled the number of wins that the program had its previous season. The Cavaliers most notable win under Walters' lead was its road victory over the eventual Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Champions, Union College. Not only did he double the number of wins, he did it while also playing 7 NCAA Division 1 opponents. This past year the program finished tied for fifth in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Cavs finished 2nd in the Country in field goal percentage shooting an impressive 50.4%. They also finished 6th in 3 point field goal percentage at 39.1%.
His commitment to seeing student-athletes graduate is unquestionable. "I believe these men are here to get an education first, we make it very clear that is our first priority. We're in the business of growing men; spiritually, academically, and athletically and we use the simple game of basketball to do that." says Coach Walters.
In 2004-05 he spent a year as the Cavalier's assistant basketball coach under former Coach Bill Robinson. That year Montreat won the conference outright and came up just short of advancing to the NAIA National Tournament losing to Tennesse Weslyan in the conference championship game. Preceding his time at Montreat Lincoln coached at his high school alma mater University Christian in Jacksonville, Florida.
Walters Graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration. Lincoln was recruited to play basketball for the Mocs in 1994-95 and as a freshman he started on a Chattanooga team that made it to the first round of the NCAA Tournament where they lost to the University of Connecticut. His junior year they returned to the "Big Dance" as a Cinderella 14 seed. They advanced to the "Sweet Sixteen" knocking off Georgia, Illinois, and eventually losing to Providence by six, 65-71.
Lincoln graduated from University Christian High School in Jacksonville, Florida where he was a First-Team All-State player averaging 24 PPG. In 1993-94 he helped lead UC to the State finals with a 26-5 record.
He was born in Wurzburg Germany as his father was in the Army for 25 years. Lincoln is married to Charlotte Walters and they have one daughter named Liberty Raine.
