Softball & Volleyball - Head Coach
As a Cavalier
Montreat College Athletic Department inducted Toby Brooks into their Hall of Fame at their 2007 annual awards banquet.
Toby Brooks was born in Greenville, TN. Toby attended Tusculum College on a baseball scholarship. He earned his degrees in Math/Computer Science and Education from Tusculum in 1991.
After graduation, Toby joined the volleyball and softball programs at Tusculum as assistant coach. He would later be named head coach of both programs.
Coach Brooks joined Montreat College in 1998 and assumed the mantel of leadership for the volleyball and softball programs. During his five years at Montreat, both of his teams grew into highly successfully intercollegiate athletic programs, well respected within our region and across the country.
Three-times named by his fellow conference coaches, the Coach of the Year, he fielded not only highly competitive athletic teams but his players consistently led the athletic department in academic performance.
While at Montreat, he produced a remarkable record to include:
2 NAIA National Tournament appearances
2 Region XII Championships
2 Conference Championships
Established records for volleyball and softball for season wins
Both programs qualified for regional tournaments last two years
1 NAIA All-American
5 NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes
6 All-Region XII Players
18 All-Conference Players
2 All-Conference and All-Region Players of the Year
6 All-Tournament Players
He established the Montreat College Invitational Volleyball Tournament, which became quite well known within our region and had the reputation as a "class" event.
After Graduation
Toby married the former Chrystal Coffey of Greenville, TN in July 2001. Chrystal is a former member of the Montreat College Women's Basketball program. They now reside in Athens, TN.
For his significant contributions to this College, its student-athletes, and by his example, it is with great pleasure that I induct Toby Brooks to the Cavalier Hall of Fame.
