Lincoln Walters is no stranger to Montreat College.  Last year Walters' was the Associate Head Coach for the Men's program working alongside Coach/Athletic Director Jonathan Bennett.  Previously in 2004/05 he spent a year as the Cavalier's assistant basketball coach under Bill Robinson.  That year Montreat won the conference outright and came up just short losing to Tennesse Weslyan in the conference championship game.   Lincoln has been at Montreat College in other capacities as well.  In the 2005/06 academic year, he served in Advancement helping raise funding to help offset the operating budget of the school.  After that he transitioned to a local Christian School where he served a three year stint as The Head Master before returning to Montreat this past year.

Lincoln played basketball at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he graduated with a Sports Management degree in 1999.

"Building young men in character and integrity through basketball has been a passion of mine for quite some time.  I've had a passion for basketball my entire life and having the opportunity to use this passion to advance the Kingdom of God is truly a privilege.  I'm grateful to Montreat for giving me this opportunity.  My family,  (immediate and in-laws) have a long history with this institution and have poured a lengthy part of our lives into what the Lord is doing here.  Thank you for giving my wife and me the privilege to continue this tradition."

Coach Walters recently announced that Kevin Hanlon will be the newest member of the Montreat Men's Basketball coaching staff. "Kevin's going to be a great asset to our program. He understands our expectations, he's been a part of the program as a player, and he has the gift of leadership and teaching." Says Coach Walters. Hanlon, a Montreat College 2010 graduate, led last year's team in shooting percentage at just under 38%. Walters' adds, "What I appreciated so much about Kevin as a player was the fact that he new his abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, and stayed within what he could do. As he transitions into a coach, I think he will help players understand their strengths and weaknesses while helping them stay within their abilities as well". Kevin has somewhat of a family tradition with Montreat Basketball. His oldest brother Sean played for Bill Robinson from 2001-2006 and his middle brother Patrick, played from 2002-2007. Kevin, like Patrick, moved straight into coaching directly after his playing career.

Kevin graduated from Montreat with a Business Administration degree focusing in the area of Management. He was heavily involved in leading worship with the chapel band and was a part of the leadership team with FCA. "I'm ecstatic about the opportunity to not only stay at Montreat but also have the privilege of moving into coaching so quickly. I'm looking forward to transitioning from captain on the floor to coaching on the sidelines" says Hanlon.

Montreat Men's Basketball team just announced the newest member to its staff.  Kent Otto will be joining the bench this year for the Cavaliers.  He has been a part of the Montreat family for many years.  Even though his family has only lived here for the past three years, he's been coming to Montreat over the past 25.  Otto played high school ball at Needham B Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC and has over 20 years of basketball experience.  Coach Walters recently stated that, "Kent is the type of coach that needs to be on our bench.  Not only is he a guy that all the players look up to and respect, he's a guy that our coaches look to as someone who is going to lead and encourage".  Coach Otto is married to Nickie and they have two children, Luke and Anna.  When asked his comments on helping the Men's program he said, "I love the game of basketball and appreciate the opportunity to be associated with Montreat College, its coaches, and the players.  I look forward to investing into the team and this community.  It should be a year of learning but we're expecting big things from this team.  The quality of these young men make it a pleasure to coach and teach."
