Christy Mooberry is beginning her second season as Head Women's Volleyball Coach at Montreat College.  For the 2008 season, with six players that were new to the Montreat College Volleyball Program, the Lady Cavaliers finished 10 - 8 in the AAC, moving up from 6th place in 2007 to 4th  in the AAC.  The 2008 season captured many awards for the young team including three Setter of the Week at the Conference Level awards, one Player of the Week, Conference Level, two Hitter of the Week awards, Conference Level, one NAIA Player of the Week Nominee, Winner at Conference Level, one AAC All Conference Team, one AAC All Freshman Team, two AAC All Academic Team, one AVCA NAIA All-Northeast Region Team, and one AVCA NAIA Honorable Mention All-American.
 
Coach Mooberry comes to Montreat after coaching at Newfane High School and WNY Stars Volleyball Club in New York.
 
Mooberry began her volleyball career playing club and high school in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. She went on to earn a volleyball scholarship to University of Saint Francis in Joliet, Illinois.  During her two seasons at USF the team earned the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Titles.  Mooberry also earned the USF Scholar Athlete Award and made the Dean's List in both 1998 and 1999. After playing two seasons under Coach Rich Luenemann, the AVCA's 2003 and 2007 Coach of the year and NAIA Hall of Fame Volleyball Coach, she transferred to Moody Bible Institute to pursue Sports Ministry.
 
While at Moody Bible Institute, Mooberry played two seasons under Jean Penfound, 2006 NCCAA Hall of Fame Inductee.  During these two seasons she earned a number of awards including, six All Tournament Team Awards, two tournament MVP's, NCCAA Midwest Regional All Tournament Team in both 1999 and 2000, NCAAA Division II all Regional Midwest Volleyball Team in 1999 and 2000, and NCCAA Division II First Team All American in 1999 and 2000.  While serving as captain for the 2000 season she also earned Grace Bible College Volleyball Classic Most Inspirational Award and President's Award, Moody Bible Institute Female Athlete of the Year 2000-2001.   Mooberry graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Sports Ministry.
 
Upon graduation, Mooberry (then Simmons) married Scott in June of 2001 and moved to Newfane, NY in July of 2001. Scott took the position of Youth and Worship Pastor at Grace Bible Church in Newfane.  Doors soon opened for Mooberry to coach.  She was an assistant coach at Wilson High School for one year then was able to take over the Varsity Coach position at Newfane High School. During her six years as head varsity coach at Newfane High school she accumulated a record of 92 wins and 26 losses and a 48-0 conference record for the last four years. The Newfane Varsity Volleyball Team earned four consecutive Niagara Orleans Conference Championships and was New York State Section VI Finalists in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007.  Mooberry also founded the Western New York Stars USA Volleyball Club in 2002 which provided opportunities for both athletic development and ministry impact.
 
Mooberry is a USAV Level 1 Certified Coach through the USAV's Coaching Accreditation Program, and holds a New York State Coaching Certification, International Sports Sciences Association Certified Fitness Trainer, and is a New York State Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant.
 
Christy, her husband Scott and their two dogs, Lex and Tank, reside in Montreat, NC.

Cortney Kirkland - Assistant Coach - 1st Season
Assistant Coach
Cortney Kirkland joins the Cavaliers as Assistant Coach under Christy Mooberry. Cortney comes to Montreat after serving as a missionary for five years in Chiang Mai, Thailand with Wycliffe Bible Translators. She graduated from Cedarville University in 2001 with a degree in International Studies, and has participated in and managed many team sports in high school, college, and in Thailand. Cortney's passion is to serve the team in practical ways and build relationships within the team for God's glory.
