Montreat College traveled to Mars Hill for a non-conference game with NCAA D-2 Mars Hill College and came away with a 14-8 victory.
Senior David Flanagan (Fort Mill, SC) went to the hill for the Cavaliers and kept the Lions in check with 7 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings of work. The Cavaliers would have 18 hits on the day with the big day coming from sophomore Lance Gower (Indian Trail, NC) who would have 2 home runs with a 3-run shot and a grand slam respectively, with 8 RBI's. Cody Reid (Granite Falls, NC.) and Pat Dawkins (Argyle, TX.) each finished the day with 3 hits. Montreat's defense was spectacular as Tyler Hopkins (Marion, NC.) would make many game changing plays at 3rd to go along with a 2 hit day as well.
The Cavaliers would have to hold on for the victory as Mars Hill would score 6 in their half of the 6th but Bradley Carpenter (Lincolnton, NC.) would come in and throw 3 scoreless to end any chances of a Lions comeback. Montreat Baseball runs their record to 5-7 and resumes play with another strong D-2 program in Young Harris College in Young Harris, GA. on Saturday and Sunday.
