The Cavalier cross country team had a solid showing at this year's Southeastern Classic, hosted by Berry College. The Cavaliers finished 7th out of 20 teams. 2nd ranked AAC rival King College finished ahead of the Cavaliers (4th place) by 18 points. Montreat managed to hold off the 3rd ranked AAC team, Covenant College (11th place).

"This was a nice tune up for our guys. We have an idea of where we stand. I have no doubt that we have another amazing race within us and Lord willing, it will come at the AAC's," said Coach Larios. "King has a nice pack, we knew this all along. But, it was nice to finally run toe-to-toe with them so our guys can see where they stood against them. Coach Dalton has a nice tight squad at King, but I think we were able to put up an honorable showing today. I'm encouraged by the quality of teams in this conference this year. Coach Stoker at Bryan College is doing some amazing things too."

The Cavs were led once again by Kenyan native, Wilbourn Kosgei. Kosgei's season best performance of 25:56.48 was good enough for 4th place overall. Daytona Beach native Daniel Dunn put together an aggressive race to hit his personal best 8K performance of 27:23.63 for a 36th place finish. Ben Hall, Andrew Hege, and Justin Edwards rounded out the top-five scorers for Montreat.

No. 17 ranked Shorter College took home the men's team title this year with a total of 35 points. Lindsey Wilson's David Matuse earned individual honors in a time of 25:22.81.

"We continue to stress the fact that we all need to win some small personal battles in order for the team to do something special. Today, we saw some of the guys win a few of them today. Woody, Andrew, Daniel and Musto toughened up and really ran well today," added Larios.

Montreat will now fine tune their training as they prepare for the AAC Championship in two weeks at Sycamore Shoals Park in Elizabethton, TN. Milligan College will serve as this year's host. The race is scheduled for November 8th with the men's 8K race beginning at 9:15am and the women's 5K starting at 10:15. The host hotel will be the DoubleTree located at 211 Mockingbird Lane, Johnson City, TN (423-929-2000).
