Transfers Hege and Dunn make a solid impact this year

The men's cross country team finished fourth behind three NCAA D-I teams at this weekend's Winthrop University Asics Invitational. The Cavaliers (102 points) were edged out by The Citadel (98 pts) for third place by a mere four points. Furman University went on to win the men's competition with 19 points, followed by Winthrop's 55.

Leading the Cavaliers again was Wilbourn Kosgei. Kosgei crossed the line in 6th place overall in a 6K time of 19:29. Sophomore Ben Hall (27th/ 20:49) led Daniel Dunn (29th/ 20:55) and Andrew Hege (31st/ 21:11) in a tight pack finish.

"I felt we had some solid races by Daniel and Andrew today," said Coach Larios. "We were missing Jed today [class field trip], so it was nice to see some of the other guys step up a bit. We're continuing to prepare heavily for our conference race, so Coach Dawson and I are proud of the efforts the guys are putting forth in their competitions, especially with heavy legs."

Montreat will compete again next week at the highly competitive Southeast Classic hosted by Berry College. This next race will be the final regular season competition before the Cavaliers head to Tennessee for the 2008 AAC XC Championships, hosted by Milligan College. The AAC's will be held on November 8th at Sycamore Shoals State Park in Elizabethon, TN; the winner of both the men's and women's cross country team title will qualify for the 2008 NAIA National Championships.
