Blankenship Earns Individual Medalist
BRISTOL, TN (October 6, 2008) -- The Montreat College Men's and Women's Golf Teams played in the AAC conference fall golf tournament on Monday, October 6th and Tuesday, October 7th, at the Country Club of Bristol, in Bristol, Tennessee.
 
The men's golf team finished the fall tournament in 5th place after a round of 309 on Monday and a new school scoring record of 300* on Tuesday for a (2) day total of 609.  With the fifth place finish, the Cavaliers are ranked fifth in the conference for the fall.  The good news is with the finish the men's team is only (10) shots back of the second place Union College going into the spring season.  The regular season champions will be determined by the scores of the fall tournament being added to the scores of the spring AAC conference tournament.
 
The Top Five Teams are;
 
1).  King College 292-287=579
2).  Union College 293-306=599
3).  Milligan College 308-396=604
4).  Tennessee Wesleyan 307-301=608
5).  Montreat College 309-300=609.
 
Nathan Blankenship, (JR. Paris, TX) led the Cavaliers in scoring 73-68=141.  Nathan won the individual medalist for the tournament in a (1) hole playoff against Josh Bamberger from King College.  This is the third tournament in the fall that Nathan has made the All Tournament Team and has finished the fall season with (2) second places and (1) win.

Cam Land, (FR. Statesville, NC) tied for 18th with scores of 77-78=155.
Cory Howard (Soph. Statesville, NC) tied for 28th, 79-80=159
Sean McKaig (Soph. Tryon, NC) 32nd, 87-74=161
Vinny Picca (Redshirt FR. Monroe, NC) tied 33rd, 80-82=162.
 
The Lady Cavaliers are in third place after the tournament with scores of 389-374=763.  The Lady Cavs are (7) shots back of second place Union College as they head into the spring season.  At this time for the fall finish the women's golf team is ranked third in the conference.  As with the men, the women's regular season champions will be determined by the scores of the fall and spring tournaments being added together.

Ashley Mitcham (JR. Waynesville, NC) 15th place with 104-94=198
Aimee Turner (JR. China Grove, NC) 16th place with 97-104=201.
