Gaddy and Defense Look Good in Loss
MONTREAT- Montreat men's soccer team suffered their second loss to a top ten team in the country this weekend. Coming off a 2-1 loss against #5 Southern Poly, the Caves hoped to come out strong against #10 ranked and last year's regular season and tournament champions Bryan College. From the start Montreat looked organized and focused but in the end it was a 1-0 defeat on Saturday in their opening AAC encounter at the Howard Fisher Memorial Field.
The Cavs found themselves chasing the game early as an unfortunate defensive mistake cost them an early goal. As the game progressed Montreat's momentum grew as they pushed hard to level the score. However, they were unable to do so as the half finished 1-0 in favor of the visiting Lions.
The second half saw a more determined and spirited Cavalier team as they tried to get back on equal terms. Despite more total shots and shots on goal, Montreat was woeful in front of goal and unable to capitalize on the many opportunities they had to score. As a result the Cavs were undone by Tom Hemmings' first half strike.
"In a game were you play as planned and have more chances on goal you expect the result. We played well enough to win but nowhere near where I believe this team is headed. I look forward to the next few games and the progression of this teams hope." Dasher
The Cavs will travel to Bristol Virginia to take on Virginia Intermont College this Saturday September 24, 2011 at 7pm.
