The Men's Basketball Program at Montreat College and Head Coach Lincoln Walters are extremely excited about their newest signee, Steve McBorrough.  A transfer student-athlete from Roane State Community College in Roane, Tennessee, McBorrough will arrive at Montreat having already earned his Associate Degree.
The power forward and center drew praise from Walters as the first-year coach anticipated what McBorrough would contribute to the team:  "Steve is an incredible athlete.  He's one of the best big man defenders I've seen.  He's long, athletic, smart, and works extremely hard in the post."  But Walters sees an immediate impact on the offensive end of the court, as well: "At 6'9" and 240 pounds, he will be one of the bigger men in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.  He has great hands, good foot work, and always has a good sense of where the basket is."

McBorrough joins a Montreat College team facing a tough 2010-11 schedule that includes six games against Division I opponents including Appalachian State, UT-Chattanooga, and The Citadel.  "Steve's very coachable and desires to be the best player on the floor every time he steps on the court," Walters said.

Walters likes the direction the Cavaliers are headed after a disappointing 2009-2010 year.  "With the addition of Scott McNeil at the point, Austin Harrison at small forward, and Steve McBorrough at power forward, we'll put on the court one of the most athletic teams Montreat has ever had, very similar to the David Robinson, Tim Lewis, and Noble Anthony era."

The complete schedule will be posted by mid-August on the Montreat athletic website at www.montreatcavaliers.com.

Montreat College is a Christ-centered liberal arts institution with its main campus for four-year traditional students in Montreat. The accelerated School of Professional and Adult Studies program has campuses in Asheville, Charlotte, and Black Mountain.
