Montreat College Volleyball head coach Christine Mooberry this week announced that Hannah Scholz has signed to play volleyball for the Cavaliers beginning as a freshman in fall 2010. The daughter of Mike and Debbie Scholz of Winter Park, Florida, Scholz will join a promising Montreat Cavalier program which set a record during the 2009 season for total match wins with a very young team.
Scholz has played volleyball for seven years, including for the Wildcats of Winter Park High School and for several club teams, including Champions and TVA. The Wildcats were runners-up in the Florida class 6A state championships, compiling a 26-7 record before falling to the champions from Plant High School.
While playing for Winter Park, Scholz was named both team captain and team MVP while appearing on the school's honor roll. Scholz is one of five daughters in her family and also played soccer and tennis at the high school level.
Scholz, who plans to major in Marketing and Communications with a minor in Art, feels as if Montreat College will be "a great environment in which to grow spiritually, intellectually, and athletically."
Claiming that Scholz "will bring a good amount of talent and character to the team," Mooberry said that she values Scholz's skill and versatility, adding that the Floridian is "a strong passer who's capable of playing both left and right side." Further, Mooberry cites Scholz' work with underprivileged children through the Orlando Childrens' Church as a testament to her latest recruit's passion to serve others.
Mooberry anticipates a very strong squad in 2010 after her team set a school record for most victories in a season, finished with a 27-19 win-loss mark, and lost only one player to graduation.
