Montreat College men's soccer head coach Brenton Benware has announced the signing of Cesar Lopez, a skilled defender who will join the Cavaliers soccer team for the fall 2010 season.

Lopez, from San Salvador, El Salvador, is a member of the El Salvador U-21 National Team and has played for various competitive club teams.  He is a defensive player who will immediately contribute to the Cavaliers' squad.

Anticipating Lopez's impact on the team, Benware says, "Cesar will be a defensive anchor for our young team.  He's quick, aggressive and very skilled on the ball.  Most importantly, he is a great student with amazing character.   Cesar is another excellent addition to our men's soccer team."

Lopez himself had the following to say in regards to choosing Montreat College.  "I believe this is a great college at which to study.  The values that Montreat College implements and the academic courses are what impacted me more than anything; and sure, I am excited to play soccer for Montreat."

Lopez is the son of Jose Lopez and Teresa Castillo, and he has one brother, Daniel Lopez.
