5/10/10 Durham, NC-The weather was cool, but the performances were hot at Duke University on Sunday evening as select members of both the men's and women's track teams competed at the Duke University Twilight Meet.
Ben Hall (Jr./Columbus, NC) and Wilbourn Kosgei (Sr./Kapsabet, Kenya) started off the hot performances when both of them ran faster than the ‘B' qualifying standard in the 5,000 meter event for NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Nationals, which will take place at the end of this month at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. Kosgei led his younger teammate across the finish line in 15:08.19 when he finished in 12th place. Hall slipped under the qualifying mark by less than half a second when he finished in 14th place while running a brisk 15:11.51. The ‘B' standard for the national championship meet is 15:12.00. Both runners' efforts eclipsed the previous school record of 15:11.76, which Wilbourn Kosgei ran in 2008 at the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic.
In the women's 5,000 meter race, Lindsay Mizok (So./Weddington, NC) and Olivia Mills (Fr./Fredericksburg, VA) also both ran personal bests. Mizok, who's previous personal best was 20:05.65, ran an astounding 19:12.55 as she finished in 12th place. Mills, in her debut in the event, finished close behind in 14th place as she clocked a 19:33.15. Mizok's race is the third fastest ever run by a Cavalier, while Mills is now the fifth fastest Cavalier ever over 5,000m.
Winston Rheinbolt (Fr./Lima, Peru) ran only one second off of his personal best in the men's 1500m as he clocked a 4:31.76. Billy Parker (Fr./Rome, NY) competed in the long jump but for the first time this season struggled in the event as he finished in 5th place and leapt 5.69 meters (18' 8"). Parker's roommate, Will Musto, competed in the men's 5,000 meter race with Hall and Kosgei, and ran a 17:13.87.
The Cavaliers will be next represented at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship Meet, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana, from May 27-29. The team will be represented by Wilbourn Kosgei (5,000m and marathon), Ben Hall (5,000m and marathon), Lindsay Mizok (marathon) and Olivia Mills (marathon).
