Montreat College Volleyball head coach Christine Mooberry this week announced that Gabrielle "Gabby" Camp, an incoming freshman, has signed to play volleyball for the Cavaliers in fall 2010.  Camp, from Dallas, Georgia, will join the developmental program for Mooberry's squad.

The daughter of Jimmy and Margaret Camp of Blairsville, GA, Camp will join a promising Montreat Cavalier program which set a record during the 2009 season for total match wins with a very young team.  Camp excelled in volleyball for Mountain Area Christian Academy in Morganton, Georgia and became, as Lions Volleyball coach Steve Shamblin said, "the first female from M.A.C.A. to get an athletic scholarship."

Mooberry believes the incoming freshman has much to offer the Cavaliers: "I look forward to working with Gabby and seeing what goals we can reach. She's a very strong girl, athletic, and driven, so it'll be fun to see her progress."

Camp has played volleyball for four years and was a leader on the 2009 Georgia Christian Athletic Association Class A State Volleyball Runners-up and was a member of the G.C.A.A. Class A 2010 State Basketball Champions.  An accomplished musician, Camp plays trumpet and is a member of her church choir and a Handbell Choir as well as participating actively in 4-H.

After wrestling with and praying about a decision about which college to attend, Camp ultimately felt as if God led her to Montreat in the mountains of Western North Carolina.  She might consider coaching in the future and plans to transfer to the veterinary school at the University of Georgia after graduation from Montreat.

Mooberry anticipates a very strong squad in 2010 after her team set a school record for most victories in a season, finished with a 27-19 win-loss mark, and lost only one player to graduation.
