Montreat College Volleyball head coach Christine Mooberry announced that Morganton, NC native Jessica Parker will sign as a Student Assistant/Developmental Player to the volleyball team for the fall 2010 season.
The daughter of Eddie and Rachael Parker of Morganton, Parker is a senior at Freedom High School who won both All-Conference honors and team Defensive Player of the Year awards for her superior play during the Patriots' 2009 volleyball season. Her coach at Freedom, Seth Rickertson, commended Jessica's spirit and said, "I am confident that she will have personal success in college while striving to bring success to her team."
Mooberry expressed excitement about the unique role Parker will play on the Cavaliers' squad.
"We greatly value the Student Assistant role she'll fill because it allows us to have another set of eyes during practices and games. Her defense will be a significant value to the Developmental Program."
Commenting on her dual hopes as a student at Montreat College, Parker said, "I look forward to a better education and a closer relationship with God. And I'm eager to spend time with those who share the same passion for the sport as I do. I love the feeling of family I get from being on a team."
Mooberry anticipates a very strong squad in 2010 after her team set a school record for most victories in a season, finished with a 27-19 win-loss mark, and lost only one player to graduation.
