Montreat College Volleyball head coach Christine Mooberry this week announced that Eastern Wayne High School volleyball player Brittney McKinney has signed to play volleyball for the Cavaliers starting as a freshman in fall 2010. McKinney will join the developmental program for Mooberry's squad and plans to major in pre-med and work toward a career in medicine.
The daughter of Wade and Angela McKinney of Goldsboro, N.C., McKinney will join a promising Montreat Cavalier program which set a record during the 2009 season for total match wins with a very young team. McKinney has played volleyball for six years, including for the Warriors of Eastern Wayne High School and for her club team, WAVE.
Mooberry believes the incoming freshman has much to offer the Cavaliers: "I think Brittney is a great fit for the school: she's very strong academically, and she's passionate about playing volleyball. I believe God will use Montreat College and her athletic career here to continue to help form Brittney in great and exciting ways."
McKinney is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity while maintaining a 3.5 GPA at Eastern Wayne.
As one factor in choosing to attend Montreat College, McKinney noted that teammates made her seem like family during her first visit and that she enjoys the amazing unity that develops on a team.
Mooberry anticipates a very strong squad in 2010 after her team set a school record for most victories in a season, finished with a 27-19 win-loss mark, and lost only one player to graduation.
