Montreat College Head Baseball Coach Mike Bender is pleased to announce the signing of Lance Gower to attend Montreat and play baseball for the Cavaliers.  Gower, who is the son of Kelvin Gower and Gina Long, will enroll for the fall 2010 semester.

Gower is a senior and middle infielder at Piedmont High School in Monroe, N.C., which plays in the Rocky River 1A/2A Conference.  As he nears completion of his sparkling high school career, Gower is hitting .420 with 4 doubles and 3 triples during the Panthers' 2010 season and has boosted his on-base percentage by collecting ten walks with no strikeouts as well.

Bender is eager for Gower to join his squad, saying, "Not only is Lance a terrific baseball player, he is a better young man off the field.  He exemplifies all that Montreat College baseball strives to be."  Bender noted that Gower currently plays for a Montreat College alumnus, Piedmont coach Milt Flow.

"Lance will make an immediate impact on this program," Bender added.  "I expect him to get early playing time and vie for a starting spot somewhere on the field."
