3/13/10 Banner Elk, NC- On a cold and wet day the Montreat Cavaliers track and field teams traveled to Banner Elk, NC (3,701 feet) for the Lees-Mcrae College Alonzo Clark Memorial Track and Field Invitational, where, despite the cold conditions, a few hot performances were turned in by the team.
At the high jump pit, William Parker (FR/Rome, NY) jumped a school record 1.73 meters (5'08") in his season debut in the event. Later, on the opposing side of the track, Parker also competed in the long jump, where he leaped 5.70 meters (18'7.5").
On the track, in the womens' 1500 meters race-the "metric mile" and the first running event of the day- Olivia Mills (Fr/Fredericksburg, VA) won in wire-to-wire fashion, where she held off the closing speed of two pursuing competitors from Lees-Mcrae College and Limestone College and clocked a 5:18.01, only a few seconds off of the school record for the event.
A few minutes after Mills' victory, four Cavalier men lined up for their version of the 1500 meter event. Ben Hall (Jr/Columbus, NC) got out hard and fast, taking control of the race from the gun and extending his lead to about 10 strides by the halfway point in the race. Despite getting outkicked by Michael Davis from Lees-Mcrae, Hall ran a several second personal best with a 4:12.11 in his second-place finish. Further back in the field, Will Musto (So/Rocky Face, GA) also ran a large personal best in the event with his 5th place, 4:30.80 finish. Winston Rheinbolt (Fr/Lima, Peru) finished in 4:42.87, good for 8th place, and Jared Nielsen (So/Charlotte, NC) crossed the line in 4:43.06 and 9th place.
In the mens' 800 meter race, Noah Hall (Fr/Columbus, NC) ran a 2:13.17 and finished in 7th place in his collegiate outdoor track debut. Kim Hibbit (Fr/Cleveland, OH) finished in 8th place in the womens' 800 meter race with a time of 2:47.85
