Lowe signs at Montreat College as her family and some of her new team mates gather around.
Montreat College Volleyball continued to build for the 2010 season and beyond as North Mecklenburg High School standout Lydia Hope Lowe signed this week to play for Head Coach Christine Mooberry's Cavaliers. Lowe is 5'6" and will likely serve as a defensive specialist once she joins Montreat's squad, which set a record during the 2009 season for total match wins with a very young team.
Lowe is the daughter of Tony and Kim Lowe of Charlotte, North Carolina and has one sibling, a sister named Kyndall. The recipient of the North Mecklenburg Coach's Award from Viking coach Sandi Skidmore, Lowe built a distinguished athletic and academic career, placing on the A/B Honor Roll all four years and recording 130 Digs, 3 Kills, and 6 Aces during her senior volleyball campaign at North Mecklenburg; she also excelled playing on Storm, her club team,.
Impressed by the beautiful mountain scenery at Montreat, Lowe said she "enjoyed the feeling of Christian support and family" she sensed during her visits to campus. She is determined to pursue a degree in Elementary Education with a heart set on teaching first graders and coaching volleyball to children.
Coach Mooberry likewise foresees an active, engaged, and successful future for Lowe as a student and athlete as she joins a young team and ambitious program. Mooberry says, "Hope is a great fit for Montreat College: she has rock solid character and will receive many tools here to grow spiritually, academically, and personally. The girls currently on the team really liked Hope and share her desire to serve and honor God in all things."
Mooberry anticipates a very strong squad in 2010 after her team set a school record for most victories in a season, finished with a 27-19 win-loss mark, and lost only one player to graduation.
