Lady Cavs Fall to UVA-Wise
The women's basketball team split their games last week, going 1-1 after a defeat in Wise, Virginia on Saturday against conference rival UVa-Wise. Despite the loss, the Cavaliers near their Christmas break with a strong record of 8-3 and high hopes for the season once it resumes after Christmas.
After knotting the game at 34-34 two minutes into the second half, Montreat was outplayed and ended up losing 85-65 to drop to 2-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Senior forward Whitney Boone from Bakersville, N.C. led the Cavaliers with 16 points and junior forward Stephanie Morrison added 11.
Despite the poor second half and the loss against Wise, after eleven games in 2008, the women were 3-8 and 0-4 in the AAC, so an 8-3 and 2-2 record this year is evidence of improved play.
And Montreat has two games in Florida before the extended Christmas break and hopes to equal or surpass its win total for all of last season, when they finished 9-22.
