Lady Cavs nab win before Thanksgiving break
It's a good sign when a coach is displeased after a 22-point road victory which raises his team's record to 7-2.  Such was the case when Montreat defeated Hiwassee College 74-52 on Wednesday, November 25 in Madisonville, Tennessee, a win that left Head Coach Craig Jackson unsatisfied.

"We did not play well," Jackson asserted, "though we are focusing on getting better."  That statement means that Jackson sees potential in his squad and anticipates greater things to come than have been promised by a strong start to the year.

Balanced scoring again characterized a Cavalier attack that overwhelmed their opponent.  Titi Takai, a junior from Hawaii, and junior guard Tahjma Gabriel each tallied 12 to lead the scoring, while Anjelica Jackson's 10 points and 8 rebounds and Alicia Wallace's 10 points gave Montreat four players in double figures.

Jackson, however, was eager to point out a different statistic that stood out.  Three assists.  No, that isn't a remarkable total by itself, but when Janel Cox handed out her third assist against Hiwassee, it made her the all-time leader in women's basketball at Montreat College with 338 career assists.

And one other statistic probably did manage to put a smile on Jackson's face.  The Cavaliers produced a 15-0 scoring run during the second half that broke the game open and led to an eventual 33-point lead before the Tigers whittled that back down to the final margin.

The Cavaliers have two chances to continue their fine start to the season this week and improve their standing in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.  On Wednesday, December 2, they welcome AAC foe Tennessee Wesleyan to McAlister Gym for a 5:30 tip-off and then travel to face UVA-Wise on Saturday, December 5 in another conference encounter.
