Lady Cavs Wrap Up Tremendous 2009 Season
The volleyball team at Montreat College set school records during its 2009 season, but the future looks even brighter for the squad.

Head Coach Christine Mooberry completed her second year in charge of the Lady Cavaliers and
was able to reflect on a breakthrough season and applaud the women who set a Montreat College record with 26 match wins and advanced to the conference semi-finals in a performance that advertised what a handful the Lady Cavaliers will be in 2010 and beyond.

In finishing the season 26-19, the team improved on its 16-21 mark from 2008 and saw a number of its players receive year-end plaudits.

Two Middle Blockers were named All-Appalachian Athletic Conference, as Allison Baumgartner, a junior from Charlotte, NC, and Anna Stephenson, a sophomore from Lillington received that honor.

Further, Sophomore Outside Hitter Ellen Goodman from New York was named Second Team All-AAC and Alyssa Kaufman, a freshman Outside Hitter from Wisconsin, was tabbed for the AAC All-Freshman team.

Sophomore Setter Natalie Nieman made the All-AAC Tournament team after leading the Lady Cavaliers to the tournament semi-finals, and three players - Lyndsey Wall, Baumgartner, and Nieman - earned All-Academic awards.

While a well-deserved rest is in order for players and coaches, Mooberry is already eager for the 2010 season to start.  With Wall the only senior on the team and Baumgartner the only junior, Mooberry will begin next year with an extremely young team that has extensive experience and promising talent.

"We played 45 matches and over 175 sets this year, we traveled to Florida and Illinois and everywhere in between, we had great wins and trying moments, and we learned to play together and rely on each other.  2010 might be a big year for us."
