2009 Seniors
Toccoa Falls falls. No, that's not a typo, but rather a brief description of the results when the Montreat College women's basketball team traveled to Toccoa, Georgia to take on the Eagles in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, November 10.
Montreat coasted to a 76-32 win and raised its record to 4-1, marking the team's finest start to a season since 2002. Head Coach Craig Jackson cited a strong team performance led by Center Alicia Wallace.
A sophomore from Mount Airy, Wallace led the team with 14 points and also snared 5 rebounds, but the resounding victory was secured by strong efforts across the board: Janel Cox reached double figure scoring with 10, Stephanie Morrison scored 8 points and played outstanding defense with 9 rebounds and 6 steals, and Tahjma Gabriel added 9 points.
Jackson said that any road win equals a worthwhile trip and noted a quick start which led to the Cavaliers claiming a 40-18 halftime lead. He was pleased as well with a +12 advantage on turnovers as Montreat committed 19 and forced 31.
Johnson Bible College hosts Jackson's club in the Cavaliers' final game before they face an Appalachian Athletic Conference foe.
The way the women from Montreat College are playing, it might be bad luck for the Evangels on Friday the 13th.
