The Montreat College men's soccer team gathered some needed momentum with a regular season-ending 2-1 victory over Truett-McConnell College on Saturday, October 31.

Since hitting a low point in September with a 1-5 record, the Cavaliers have posted a 7-3-1 record, turning around a season whose first month seemed threatened by injuries and inconsistent play.

But Saturday's win sends Montreat into the first round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament with some hope of winning the three matches they'd need to advance to the NAIA national tournament in late November.

Head Coach Brenton Benware saw characteristics in his team's performance which made him hopeful as the first round of the AAC tourney nears.  "We gave up a penalty kick and were trailing 0-1 in the opening minutes of the match, but we re-claimed momentum and tied the match at 1-1 ten minutes later.  I was proud to see them fight back."

Sami Bin and Paul Connell scored the Cavalier goals that produced the final 2-1 margin.

Benware urges the Montreat College students and soccer fans to show up on Saturday to cheer his fourth-seeded team on as they face fifth-seeded Reinhardt College, against whom they earned a close 2-1 win earlier in the year.  The winner will travel to Milligan College for the conference semi-finals on Friday, November 12th.
