2009 Volleyball Team
When Montreat College faced off against North Greenville University earlier this season, it was the Crusaders that walked away with the victory, downing the Lady Cavs in a heated battle that went all five sets.
Not this time, though. Last night the Lady Cavaliers hammered the Crusaders, winning in four sets, 26-28, 25-23, 25-19, and 25-16.
Alyssa Kaufman was outstanding for both the offense and defense in the match, posting 12 kills, four aces, 23 digs and four block assists. Natalie Nieman and Lyndsey Wall both recorded 17 assists on the night, and Nieman also managed 15 digs in the contest. Allie Baumgartner contributed 10 digs, a solo block and six block assists in the victory effort along with Anna Stephenson's strong play at the net: four block assists and three solo blocks.
Hilary Harrison had 10 digs a solo block and three block assists; Hannah Bostic recorded four block assists and a solo block; and Liz Huitron posted three aces for the Cavaliers.
The Cavs are holding strong at third place in the AAC behind second place Bryan College and conference leader Union College, which is on a 15-game win streak. The Cavaliers are 11-2 in AAC play and 23-14 overall. Tomorrow night, the Lady Cavs will take on Mars Hill College before preparing to face the AAC leader Union College Saturday night at home in a critical conference match.
