On Saturday, October 17th, the Montreat College women's soccer team travelled to Waleska, Georgia to challenge Reinhardt College in a match that turned out to be more memorable for the conditions in which it was played more than for the result, as the Lady Cavaliers fell to the Eagles 1-0 on a cold, blustery day on a wet, even icy pitch.Montreat's first away game in several weeks saw a disconnected attack that often fell apart in the attacking third of the field.  Head Coach Don Maples noted the team continued a season-long inability to convert offensive opportunities that strong build-up play had created.  Citing the work of several players, Maples noted that "Ashleigh English worked tirelessly" in attack and Defender Haley Eddy "played her best game of the season."

Further, several stellar saves from finally-healthy Goalkeeper Caroline Mellard kept the Cavaliers close, as she turned away all but one Eagle attack.  Reinhardt snuck a shot past Mellard late in the first half, but the fine effort by the freshman goalie from Georgia offers hope as the team heads toward the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament in November.

The Lady Cavaliers charged into the second half with a renewed level of intensity as the defense allowed only five shots from Reinhardt, as opposed to the eleven of the first half.
Despite the committed effort, Montreat was unable to find that tying goal.

Maples cites injuries as a factor dictating the women's level of play.  Three of the team's players were out due to injuries, and some of those who played were fighting through various minor injuries, allowing Maples to have only two substitutes at his disposal on a wearying day playing in harsh conditions.
