Coach Don Maples likened the women's soccer team's latest tough loss to another "chapter" with the same sad ending.  Indeed, the Lady Cavaliers' 1-0 loss in double overtime to Trevecca Nazarene University on Saturday, October 10 retold a tired story: dominant in possession and shots on goal, quicker to the ball and spirited in their effort, the Montreat College women simply could not find the back of the net.

Maples notes that during this latest match, the Cavaliers outshot the Trojans 16-9 and enjoyed a 70-30% edge in ball control but could not translate that to even one goal.  In fact, Montreat boasts a 66-25 advantage in shots on goal in the past four contests, but all those attempts led to only three goals and a 1-2-1 record over that stretch of the season.

Team Captain Ashley Edwards voiced the same frustration as Maples, noting that the team is dismayed at "losing games the way we have been … controlling the game but not being able to finish."

On Saturday, Montreat's stingy defensive effort compensated for their trouble on offense and resulted in a 0-0 score at the end of regulation.  But after 103 minutes of goalless play, Trevecca created a score off a corner kick to end the game in the second overtime period on the Golden Goal rule.

The loss dropped Montreat's record to 0-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play and 1-7-1 overall.  The Lady Cavaliers next take the field on Wednesday, October 14 at 2:00 as they host Union College, which sports a 9-2 record and sits atop the AAC with a 3-0 mark.
