The Men's Soccer team from Montreat College struggled during the first half of the season but has collected key victories when it has most needed them.  Such was the case with the 2-0 victory over Cumberland University on Saturday, October 3 during Homecoming Weekend.

Just as the team enters a vital stretch of four consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference matches, which will go far in determining its regular season standing, they played what Head Coach Brenton Benware called their "best match of the season."

Benware cited several factors in the squad's improved play, including stalwarts who performed well as usual.  A tight contest was finally broken open when team captain Stephen Jackson found Shaka Bangura, who beat the Bulldog goalkeeper for a 1-0 margin.  Paul Connell added the final score as the Cavaliers tallied more than one goal for the first time in the past six matches.

Though the record stands at only 3-6, more importantly, Montreat's AAC record is 2-1 as they face those four conference foes, starting with Bluefield College, which visits the Black Mountain campus on Wednesday, October 7 for a 4:00 match.

Benware enjoyed seeing the Homecoming crowd cheer the Cavaliers on and was further encouraged to see Sami Bin return to action and add energy to the team.
