BOILING SPRINGS, NC (September 6, 2008) -- The Montreat College Women's Softball team traveled to Boiling Springs, NC on Saturday to begin their fall season and split with Garner Webb and Young Harris. In the first game, Montreat defeated Gardner Webb 9-4 behind the pitching of junior Amanda Wolfe (Cherokee, NC). Wolfe went five innings with four strikeouts, five hits, and one earned run. Freshman Janna James earned the save in going two innings and giving up no runs, with one strikeout and one hit.

Sophomore Jamie Poling blasted a three-run home run in the second inning, while senior teammate Amy Vogel drove in two runs with one being an RBI single.  Poling returned in the fifth inning to to hit an RBI single.  Sophomore Cayla Starnes followed in the sixth inning with her own RBI.

In game two against Young Harris, the Lady Cavs fell short, picking up the loss 3-4. Freshman Whitney Roper drove in an RBI single in the fourth inning, while teammates Amber Summerow and Erin Cross picked up one RBI single each in the sixth inning. Janetha Gregory who started the mound for the Lady Cavs went two innings and gave up three runs.  Freshmen Taylor Trull and Janna James came in on the mound for three and two innings respectively, while James gave up the last run.

The Lady Cavs will return to action on Saturday, September 20 at Mars Hill.
