Wilbourn Kosgei and Lindsay Mizok continue to lead their cross country teams as they continue to work toward the AAC championships.

"We're racing with tired legs," said Coach Larios.  "But at this time of the year, so is everyone else.  We have to keep working toward November.  We have a long road ahead of us and a short time to get there."

The men finished in 9th place out of 11 with a team score of 267.  The Ohio State University Buckeyes won the men's title with 27 points, followed by Queen's University (41 pts) and Appalachian State (68 pts).  For the second week in a row, Montreat was led by senior Wilbourn Kosgei.  Kosgei crossed the finish line in the 6400 meter race in 42nd place with a time of 21:37.47.  He was followed by Ben Hall and Daniel Dunn, both clocking 22:21.30 and 22:44.51, respectfully.

The Cavaliers finished one place and 40 points behind last year's AAC Cross Country Champion, Milligan College.

"Milligan is certainly tough again.  Bryan College is now ranked in the top twenty nationally, and will probably end up in the top fifteen.  Milligan is also a tough team so I think it will boil down to who is healthier and who can continue to develop by November," added Larios.  "Like I said, we have our work cut out for us and we have a short time to do it in, especially if any of our guys want to earn a spot to nationals."

On the women's side, Montreat finished 9th out of 10 schools.  They were once again led by 2008 national championship qualifiers, Lindsay Mizok and Elisabeth Elliot.  Mizok finished the 5000 meter race with a time of 20:36.31, good enough for 39th place out of 108 competitors.  Elliot crossed the line in 66th place with a time of 21:56.06.

"With Artie and Olivia not feeling well and most of the other girls just starting to come around, we understand our early season challenges," admitted Coach Larios.  "It's a matter of consistency and getting our competitive fire lit again."

The Cavaliers will once again be in action on October 10th at the Furman University Invitational.  The race is scheduled to start at 8:00am.
