The Lady Cavs were shutout by the Bryan College Lions last weekend, 1-0. It marks the second conference game for the Cavaliers who are still looking for their first win in the regular season.
Sophomore goal keeper Sarah McGuirt started this game instead of Caroline Mellard, who was out with an injury. Sarah had 10 saves on 14 shots, while giving up one goal.
The Cavs offense stepped up the pressure in the game, with seven shots in this game compared to eight shots total in first three games of the regular season. The defense, led by McGuirt was again very strong for the entire contest.

Head Coach Don Maples says, "We are taking some some positives from this game to build on. We continue to be fitter than the teams we are playing. Therefore, we are still able to play hard at the end of the game. Also, we have been talking about playing with passion, not just effort. I saw a lot more passion in this game, so that has carried over from the Converse contest. The last 15 minutes we loosened up and just played. We were playing the ball forward, creating some opportunities, but still not getting shots. I liked what I read in Coach Mooberry's story from last week and it applies here also. I love my team, but I am still waiting on them to lay it all on the field. To play with urgency for 90+ minutes, not the last 10-15 minutes when we try to pull the goal back. If we played like that from the start we could be up one, maybe two goals. The third positive we take builds on what I just said -- last season we always started slow and usually gave up a goal in the first 10 minutes. This year we are beginning games playing hard and focused."

The next contest for the Lady Cavs will be this Saturday at 3:00 when they take on Tennessee Wesleyan College for the first Cavalier home game of the season.
