The Cavaliers opened up the 2009 season with an incredibly tough loss to Shorter College, falling 1-4. Shaka Bangura registered the only Montreat goal of the game, and Stephen Jackson recorded the assist.
Coach Benware says,
"This was a difficult game for us. We sat out five starters while we are waiting for eligibility issues to be cleared. In addition, we had another key starter, Sami Bin, that sat most of the game due to a previous injury. With an additional loss of Brandon Rodeman (Red card with 20 minutes remaining in the match), we simply did not have enough depth to carry us to victory. Regardless of the obstacles, we maintained a 1-0 lead until 39 minutes into the game."
The Cavaliers will face a tough opponent, King College, on the road this Saturday in their first AAC match up.
