Jonathan signs as his parents and sister look on
Jonathan Wood, a Point Guard just graduating from the Greenville Tech Charter High School in Greenville, SC, will be joining the other Cavaliers on the basketball court in just a few months. Wood will begin his studies at Montreat College this fall, where he plans to major in Business Management. Jonathan is the son of Ernest and Cassandra Wood of Greenville, SC, and he also has one sister, Tamarrah.

Wood has been playing under the supervision of Head Coach Clay Breazeale and he was named All-Conference this year, averaging 13 points, 4 assists, 2 steals and 3 boards per game.  Breazeale says, "Jonathan has two really good parents -- they've really taught this young man well -- things like doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking. I've also seen Jonathan improve dramatically on the court each year -- he loves learning. On the court he is much faster than he looks. His speed and his ability to change direction or pace are some of his biggest strengths."

When asked why he has chosen Montreat College for his education, Jonathan said, "I think it's a good fit. I like the environment, the campus -- it's quiet here. I love the coaches and everything about Montreat, really. After I narrowed my school choices down I felt it was the right place for me. When it comes to playing ball, I believe you have to be tough -- especially mentally tough -- and have a good work ethic. I love watching tape, and I love learning -- getting better is one of my favorite things about the game."

Lincoln Walters, Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach at Montreat College, says, "Jonathan is the ideal student-athlete.  He understands that it's about getting it done in the classroom first, as he graduated with a 3.8 GPA, and then getting it done on the court.  He will help us at the point guard position this year with his great ball handling skills and basketball I.Q.   We're excited to see all the other things he's going to bring to the program."

With a tough schedule lined up for the year, Jonathan and the rest of Cavaliers will have a lot of room to work on their game and bring that character and heart to the hardwood. We welcome Jonathan and his family to the Montreat College community!
