The Cavaliers will once again have their work cut out for them this season as Head Coach Jose Larios has announced a challenging cross country schedule for the 2009 season.
"It's always the goal of our program to compete at our highest level at the AAC Championships," says Coach Larios. "This year's schedule will progressively challenge us as we get closer to the AAC's. Our final meet before the AAC's, The Great Lakes Challenge, will host many of the NAIA's top ranked cross country programs which should give us a great perspective on our season at that point."
The Cavaliers open up at home once again with the Cavalier Kickoff Classic on September 5th. The Cavs will then head to Boone, NC to attend the first of two Appalachian State University Invitationals (Sept. 18 and Oct. 16). Both ASU invitationals will feature some very talented NCAA and NAIA teams. Montreat will also be one of a large gathering of collegiate teams at this year's Great American Cross Country Invitational in Cary, NC on October 2nd. The GACC invite will once again be held in Cary, NC after a long stay in Hoover, AL.
"The Great American race will serve as a great fitness check for us while giving us a wonderful opportunity to showcase our teams' talent to many high school programs," added Coach Larios.
The Cavs then head up north to Grand Rapids, Michigan for the Great Lakes Challenge which will be hosted by Aquinas College on October 24th. Last October the GLC hosted many of the top 10 teams in the NAIA.
Finally, on November 7th the Cavaliers will host the 2009 AAC Cross Country
Championships on their newly designed course on the Black Mountain Campus. The championship meet will once again serve as the NAIA national championship qualifier.
