The Lady Cavaliers soccer program is working through the
long, hot days of summer to prepare for the steep challenges set before them in
the fall. Even with major changes in the AAC conference (losing King College
and adding Reinhardt College) this season looks to be another year of extremely
competitive conference play.
Head Women's Soccer Coach Don Maples says, "God gives us
challenges every day. How we choose to view and respond to those, either as
obstacles that block us, or pillars to strengthen and deepen our faith, will
define our character. That is why I am so excited to see this team's progress
from the lessons learned in 2008. The returning players had a very productive
spring season as we continued to build upon the training from the fall. Add to
that a talented group of incoming freshmen, and we are excited about the way
the Lady Cavaliers look to compete in 2009.
Our preseason starts with two exhibition games against NCAA teams: Division II
Lees McRae and Division I Liberty University. What a great way to challenge
these young ladies and mold them for a competitive season! The trip to
Lynchburg to play Liberty will be a tremendous time of sharing our faith with
their squad and playing a very strong team that will challenge us in every way.
Last season we were competitive, but had problems finishing the game off,
especially in conference matches. With two more wins on our conference record
that ended as loses last year and we would have finished tied for third. This
season we want to finish the race as we compete for the prize."
