The Cavalier volleyball team has made tremendous strides forward this summer in recruitment and preparation for the fall. Head Coach Christine Mooberry is officially releasing the 2009 season schedule today, and it includes some new names from tough NCAA Division II schools as well as trips to some extremely competitive tournaments. The schedule should really test the team that includes eight new recruits and highly talented returners including junior Allison Baumgartner (2008, NAIA Women's Volleyball All-American Honorable Mention, 2008, AAC All-Conference Team, 2008, AAC All-Academic Team), and sophomore Natalie Nieman (2008 AAC All-Freshman Team). Among the recruits for next year is Chelsea Fleury, was named to the Northeast North Carolina's Albermarle All-Conference Team
and All-Area Team. She is ranked 2nd out of 293 in digs in NC state on
maxpreps.com and is also ranked 48th out of 500 for digs in the country
on Maxpreps.com.
The Cavs finished last season with a 10-8 conference record and a 16-21
record overall. It was Mooberry's first year at the helm and a
significant year of growth with the team. The returning squad is a
solid, dedicated group of ladies that are setting their sights on a
Conference Championship as they welcome the new players onto the court.
Coach Mooberry says, "This year we have one transfer from Houghton
College and all of the other seven recruits have club experience. The
girls are working very hard this summer with their workouts and have
been reporting in each week. We have our goals set high this year and
would like to be contending for the top of the conference."
