Elizabeth signs as her father, Carlos, mother, Maria, and sister, Stephanie look on
June 8, 2009 Montreat College Head Women's Volleyball Coach Christy Mooberry announces today the eighth recruit signed for the Lady Cavalier's 2009 season. Elizabeth Huitron is a 5'6" setter/right side from Hickory, NC. She is the daughter of Carlos and Maria Huitron, and has an older sister Karla, and a younger sister Stephanie.
Elizabeth is a student at Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville, NC where she holds a 4.137 GPA. Elizabeth desires to pursue a Biology major at Montreat College.
Elizabeth has been playing volleyball for eight years, getting her start with organized play when she was in middle school. Her sophomore year, the team made it to the third round of playoffs and Elizabeth earned the ‘Team Before Self Award.' Her junior year, the team made it to the second round of playoffs and Elizabeth earned the ‘Super Setter Award.' Her senior year, the team earned a record of 20-2 and was named conference co-champions and Elizabeth again earned the ‘Super Setter Award.' Her senior year, Elizabeth was also recognized as an All-Conference Player while serving as captain of her team. Elizabeth also plays club volleyball for The Alexander Aces, an 18U USA Volleyball program. She has been a member of this program for three years.
She was also a member of her high school soccer team for her freshman and sophomore years.
Elizabeth's parents, Carlos and Maria say, "We are so very proud of everything our daughter has accomplished. We are thrilled that she is able to attend a college where she will further her studies as well as her faith in God." Elizabeth says, "I am looking forward to making new friendships and also being able to continue on with my faith in the Lord at a Christian college. I am also looking forward to competitive and challenging classes that will help me to strive to be a better student. As for being on the volleyball team, I look forward to making close friendships with all of the players. I am also looking forward to being able to play at a higher and a much more competitive level."
"I am really excited to welcome Elizabeth to Montreat College and to the volleyball program. Elizabeth is a very smart girl and is looking forward to the opportunities presented at Montreat College, not just on the court, but in the classroom, and with her teammates. Elizabeth is a very hard worker. I believe she will develop into a very good volleyball player, and look forward to seeing her growth this year. She also has a great and supportive family. It's been a joy to get to know them through this process," says Coach Mooberry.
Elizabeth is also involved in Student Council and is a member of her school's Sr. Beta Club. She attends First Assembly of God Church. Her favorite verse is Deuteronomy 31:6: " Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
