Hilary, her mother Becky, and her former coach
June 3, 2009 -- Montreat College Head Women's Volleyball Coach Christy Mooberry is announcing the seventh recruit signed for the Lady Cavalier's 2009 season. Hilary Harrison is a 5'9" outside hitter from Chesterfield, VA. She is the daughter of Becky and the late James Harrison and has a younger sister, Morgan, who is a sophomore on the varsity volleyball team at Lloyd C. Bird High School.
Hilary has played volleyball since her freshman year at Lloyd C. Bird High School. Hilary has also played softball for four years, as well as participating in the soccer program and the Ultimate Team at Lloyd C. Bird. Before high school volleyball she was involved in her school's cheerleading team where they achieved the State Champion Title.
Hilary's volleyball team at Lloyd C. Bird High School has achieved District Champions in 2005. She was named to Second Team All-District and All-Academic in 2007 and was named First Team All-District and All-Academic in 2008. She also served as the captain of the varsity team for the 2007 and 2008 season.
Hilary also has played four years of club volleyball. Her freshman year she played for Diamond Juniors; her sophomore and junior year she played with Richmond Volleyball Club; and her senior year she played with Mid Atlantic Volleyball Club.
When asked about her and her mother's thoughts on Hilary attending Montreat College, her mom responded, "I am very excited God has opened this door for Hilary. Montreat feels like such a special place and Hilary is blessed to have this opportunity." Hilary is also looking forward to her experiences at Montreat College and is excited about playing volleyball. "I love the camaraderie and lasting friendships that are formed with my team mates and I love the competition of the sport. Montreat is such a pretty setting and I think the small campus will be easy to adapt to and I am looking forward to expanding my horizons academically," she says.
According to Coach Mooberry, "I first saw Hilary at a showcase in Roanoke. Her skill stood out on the court, but I wanted to get to know her as a person to see if she would be a good fit at Montreat. After talking with Hilary's mom, Becky, and with Hilary, I thought Hilary would be a great fit, but knew she was also looking at other Christian schools. Hilary came to visit the campus at the Open House and was able to meet professors and got to meet and play with the volleyball girls. After that, she knew she wanted to be here. We are excited to have Hilary on the team. She is a skilled and experienced player and also a strong academic student. She also brings a contagious level of excitement for the college and also for volleyball."
Hilary is a member if Swift Creek Baptist Church. She enjoys playing guitar and many other sports and outdoor activities. She has been in a pre-engineering specialty center at her high school the last four years. While she has enjoyed the challenge and opportunity she has decided to possibly pursue a business major at Montreat College. Hilary was also named to the National Art Honor Society and especially enjoys photography. She also enjoys Latin and was active in the Latin Club and Convention.
It's with great excitement we welcome such a well rounded student-athlete and her family to the Montreat College family.
