Hawkins signs has his parents as coach and family look on
Tyler Hawkins, a 6'3" Guard / Small Forward from Parrott Academy in Kinston, NC has just signed on with the Cavaliers Men's Basketball program for the 2009 season. In his last high school season Hawkins averaged 13.1 PPG and six boards per game, making him another powerful offensive threat for the Cavs as Head Coach Jonathan Bennett continues to solidify the roster for next season.
Tyler says, "It has always been my dream to play college basketball and I know Montreat is a place where I can grow as a person on and off the court. I couldn't be more happy than I am to be playing there next season."
Tyler's former coach, Charles Mooring, says that Tyler's strengths are his three point shooting, his hard work ethic, passing game and his overall knowledge on the court. Mooring says, "I have had the privilege of coaching Tyler for four years. He has made great strides since his freshman year and grown so much as a basketball player. We will miss him greatly."
Coach Bennett looks forward seeing Tyler's basketball potential continue to grow, adding, "We are excited about Tyler joining our program. He is a young man of high character who has developed into a strong basketball player. I look forward to watching Tyler develop over the next four years and seeing the impact he will have on our campus and our basketball program."
