Friedrichs now a Cavalier
Montreat College Head Men's Soccer Coach Brenton Benware announces today that David Friedrichs, a midfielder from Midlothian, VA, will be among the Cavaliers to make a run at a conference championship and the national tournament this year. He is the son of Gunther and Cathy Friedrichs and graduate of Monacan High School.
David comes to Montreat College with a wealth of high school and club experience. He was a varsity midfielder for both Richmond Christian School and Monacan High School. He played a total of seven years with the United Football Club in Richmond, VA, and two years with the F.C. Fredericksburg Super-Y. During his last season at Monacan High, the team finished the year 10-4-1 and was ranked as high as 14th in the nation by National Soccer Coaches Association of America at one point.
David says, "The atmosphere at Montreat College and the men's soccer program were both what I was looking for as a student-athlete. Montreat was the best fit for me in the classroom and on the field, and I am looking forward to excelling in both."
Coach Benware is equally excited about having Friedrichs on board, saying, "David is an exciting addition to our team and campus. He's played competitively at the club and high school levels, and he brings with him a determined desire to excel in everything. As he learns our system of play, I believe he'll be a valuable player for us in the midfield. Most importantly, David is simply a genuinely nice guy that loves the Lord. I'm confident he'll represent Montreat College in a great way!"
