MONTREAT, NC (May 1, 2009) -- Montreat College swept the season series with Virginia Intermont on Saturday and Sunday in relatively easy fashion as the Cavaliers beat the Cobras 18-8, 12-0 and 11-6. In game one, the bats would start rolling until the sixth as Montreat found themselves in a three run deficit with two innings to play. By the time the inning was over so was the game as the Cavaliers would score thirteen runs in that frame to end the game due to mercy rule. Leading the charge offensively would be Steven Hoyle (Cherryville, NC) with three hits and five rbi and Jesse Wise(Angier, NC) with a three run homerun and three hits. Daniel Benner (Durham, NC) would also be perfect at the plate with three hits. Brian Greene (Shelby, NC) would come in relief to get the win for the Cavaliers.

In game two, Montreat would again end the game due to mercy rule as Jesse Wise (Angier, NC) would have another three run bomb to go along with two more hits and Seth Blevins(Ringgold, GA.) would pitch a complete game shutout for the victory only allowing two hits.

Game three would see a little of everything as Cameron Duckworth (Asheville, NC) would steal three bases as well as home plate and hit a homerun, his 24th of the year and John Shannon (Waynesville, NC) would pitch brilliantly on his final day at Cavalier field as he would go six and only give up four hits with four strikeouts and one earned run. Montreat finishes the season 33-16 and goes into Saturdays conference tournament as the fifth seed and will play Milligan at 7:30 pm at Hunter-Wright stadium in Kingsport, Tennessee.
