MONTREAT, NC (April 21, 2009) --- Who said friendly competition is healthy?  On the Montreat College baseball team there is some friendly competition between juniors Cam Duckworth and Josh Ashton in the homerun category.  At yesterday's doubleheader against Southern Virginia, both Duckworth and Ashton moved up in record for homeruns in a season and career.

This is Josh Ashton's first season as a Montreat Cavalier and he is definitely making a lasting impression.  A transfer from Pitt Community College and native of Greenville, NC, the rightfielder has already made his mark in Cavalier recordbooks and is making his presence in the AAC and NAIA.

With his two homeruns yesterday against Southern Virginia, Ashton moved his season homerun record to 15, putting him tied with Joe Snyder in most homeruns hit in a single season.  Snyder hit his 15 bombs back in 1996.

Ashton is leading the Cavaliers in batting average (.405) and RBI's with 57.  In the AAC he is #8 in batting average, #1 in slugging percentage (.881), #2 in runs batted in (RBI),  and #8 in doubles with 13.  Josh is #2 in the AAC in homeruns, only 5 behind his teammate Cam Duckworth.
