Black Mountain, N.C.  – Under the bright lights at Pulliam Stadium on Wednesday night, the Montreat Cavaliers moved to a perfect 3-0 at home this fall when they defeated the visiting Milligan Buffaloes, 2-1, in an AAC matchup.

On paper, the Cavaliers (6-3) held the competitive advantage over a Buffaloes team that arrived with a 1-9-1 mark. On the pitch, the advantage was less clear.

"We made this game a lot more difficult for ourselves by not finishing our chances in front of the goal. We had 22 shots and could not take advantage of our opportunities," said head coach Michael Bruce

Working in their favor was an outstanding night from senior George Stanley (SR/West Yorkshire, England), who scored two goals for the home team. The Cavaliers' defense, including keeper Miguel Tudon (SR/Vila-Real, Spain), was solid all evening, keeping Milligan scoreless until midway through the second half when the Buffaloes' Rhys Borror broke through.

"George Stanley scoring two goals is a rare thing, it was good to see him getting on the scoresheet," said Bruce.

Even if they didn't finish all their chances, the head coach was pleased with the number his team created on Wednesday night.

Coach Bruce and assistant coach Joao Ehlers now turn their attention to Columbia International University on Saturday. "This will be a tricky game, I don't think their record reflects the performances that they have been putting in," said Bruce. "We must make sure we fight and play with quality against a good team."

Next up: The Cavaliers cap the athletic events for Homecoming/Senior Day with a 7:15 p.m. game against Columbia International University. The Rams compete in the NCCAA and own a 2-7-2 overall mark. The two teams last faced each other on September 24, 2016 with the Cavaliers earning a 3-0 win.
